Designer - Fabrication Department

 Position Description for Designer - Fabrication Department: While working with the customer, the Designer- Fabrication will generate customer drawings, prepare shop drawings, program fabrication equipment and deliver the specified design on time.  Additionally, this position will lead, develop and qualify new manufacturing processes in a finish product environment. 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and interpret blueprints, specifications, assembly instructions, layouts and other visual aids for manufacturing and customer presentations.
  • Generate shop prints with shop-specific manufacturing instructions.
  • Generate and enter BOM into business system. 
  • Design custom tools for complex part geometry.
  • Participate and/or lead product realization meetings, PFMEA workshops and manage resulting action items until complete
  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods to meet quality assurance standards
  • Initiate manufacturing process changes as required
  • Responsible for project management duties as required
  • Participate in Design for Manufacturing reviews with prospective customers
  • Participate in and support company initiatives as required
  • Communicate and train the appropriate manufacturing group on new processes and/or changes
  • Assist fabrication as required to meet customer demands

Qualifications

  •  A.B.S. in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, however Associates degree or 1-2 years of vocational technical training will be strongly considered                  

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of sheet metal, forming, bending and laser cutting design experience,  expertise in 3D CAD, preferably AutoCAD Inventor.

  •  Must have experience programming punch, brake press and laser fabrication equipment.

  • Project management experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of AWS D1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.6 and ISO and FDA QSR is highly desirable

  • Knowledge of processes involved in manufacturing mechanical assemblies

  • Exposure to DFM/DFA tools related to electronics manufacturing, risk assessment and tooling design

  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized

  • Possesses strong communication (verbal and written) and analytical problem-solving skills

  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and a cooperative team spirit

  • Ability to work on complex assignments in collaboration with various department system owners

  • Demonstrates an ability to work accurately, follow instructions, handle multiple priorities, and work within tight schedules

  • Presents a professional manner and attitude, and is eager to learn and be challenged

  • Proficient with required common computer applications, including MS Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, etc
    Must be flexible and able to adapt to changes in priorities
    Able to work independently under minimal supervision, and with others, in a positive and collaborative manner
    Must be available to work overtime as needed.
