Rudy Oblak has joined Cygnus Manufacturing Company as Vice President of Manufacturing. Previous to CMC, Rudy spent six years with Parker Hannifin-Irwin as Production Manager. Rudy had responsibility for all aspects of the machining operations. Parker Hannifin is a $13 billion revenue company and is the world’s leader in motion and control technologies and systems. Prior to Parker, Rudy spent ten years in engineering and manufacturing with Cleveland Steel Container, Swagelok and Molten Metal Equipment Innovations. Rudy has a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. Please join us in welcoming Rudy to CMC.

The Tribune Review recently ran an editorial on Thursday May 24, 2012 by Jim Roddey, the former Allegheny County Chief Executive. Mr. Roddey’s position was that it was time for Pittsburgh to accelerate the focus on small to medium manufacturers in the area.

The “Pittsburgh Business Times” in its February 24-March 1, 2012 edition is reporting that Aquion is close to signing a deal with RIDC to lease a large portion of the former Sony/Volkswagen plant in New Stanton, Pa. This is great news for the region in that a Carnegie Mellon spinoff with engineers in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh will be staying in the Pittsburgh region...

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission is expected to approve licenses to build to two new nuclear reactors Thursday, the first approvals in over 30 years.
The reactors are being built in Georgia by a consortium of utilities led by Southern Co. (SO, Fortune 500) They will be sited at the Vogtle nuclear power plant complex, about 170 miles east of Atlanta. The plant already houses two older reactors.
